Sally’s use of light in all her projects is inspirational. I really enjoy her approach of “warts and all” where every aspect of childhood has been captured such as bed wetting, injuries and nakedness which are not the stereotypical childhood photo would depict, also in black and white, where children’s photos are often colourful. This particularly resonated with me because I am in a similar position personally, I take a great deal of photographs of my own three children so they will have documented memories of their lives to look back on and share with others one day. It is in black and white and she started by photographing her own children every day because she didn’t remember her own childhood and had little photographic evidence of herself as a child. While researching online and reading the recommended interview in the text I was fascinated by her work and how different and often difficult it was to view. Sally Mann – Southern Landscapes Sally Mann – Southern Landscapes Sally Mann – Southern Landscapes She made use of this light to take a lot of her photographs while travelling in this area and the results are eerie, out of this world, almost abstract images that are totally mesmerizing. Part of the text in this unit mentions the American photographer, Sally Mann and how she describes the quality of daylight in the south of USA vs the difference in the north.
