She’d lost her doll and was inconsolable. In the fall of 1923, Franz Kafka encountered a distraught little girl on a walk in the park. Inspired by a true story, Kafka and the Doll recounts a remarkable gesture of kindness from one of the world’s most bewildering and iconic writers. Available soon in Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, and German.

When I’m not writing, I like to read, go on long walks to admire other people’s gardens, and play with my two kids and my cutie-pie dog named Luna. Also in French, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Greek, and Vietnamese. I always write about things I'm curious about because that way I have fun and stay interested in my work. I especially like the wind ―i t has so many different personalities! And then sometimes I write stories and poems just because I like the way certain words sound together and the way those words make a picture in my head. Kindness is a frequent theme in my books, and so are themes relating to nature because I like nature a lot and find it both mysterious and familiar. Sometimes, I write stories that are about caring for people, paying attention to the world around us, and being brave and creative to change what isn’t working or what isn’t right. All the places I’ve lived and all the people I’ve met shape the way I see the world, and the way I see the world shapes the stories I write. As a grownup, I've lived in Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and China. Here's where I lived growing up: Nigeria, Indiana, Japan, Costa Rica, Canada, and Michigan. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. Whatever the reason, I'm glad you're here. Hi there! Maybe you're visiting this site because you’re a student working on a project, or maybe you just love books.
